Botched burglary on building society

Bedfordshire PolicePolice are hunting robbers who tried to smash their way into a building society.

As security guards entered the Nationwide branch in High Street North, Dunstable, two men appeared at the door.

The door security mechanism had locked, leaving the pair unable to enter, and one of them repeatedly kicked at it until the glass shattered.

They realised they were unable to get in and made off on foot towards The Quadrant Shopping Centre.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following the attempted robbery, which happened at around 8.20pm last Tuesday.

Detective Constable Gill Cowley said: “The offenders may have had a car parked in the town. I would urge anyone with any information to contact the police, in complete confidence.”

Both men were black, in their early twenties, with a slim build and approximately 6ft tall. The first wore a grey scarf covering his face, a dark hooded top, baggy jeans, and trainers, while the second had dark clothing with a pointed hood and was slightly shorter.

Anyone with information can contact DC Cowley on 01582 473386, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
