A former Luton mayor is reportedly being investigated for alleged involvement in a forced marriage.
Labour councillor Raja Saleem, right, who represents Saints ward on Luton Borough Council, has been suspended by Bedfordshire Police Authority by mutual consent since November.
It is believed Cllr Saleem, of Douglas Road, Luton, is one of two people named in a Forced Marriage Protection Order sought by Bedfordshire Police on behalf of a 16-yearold Muslim girl.
In December we reported that Cllr Saleem, a member of Bedfordshire Police Authority's Complaints and Professional Standards Committee, had been suspended 'by mutual agreement' with chairman Peter Conniff.
At the time Mr Conniff refused to reveal the reason for Cllr Saleem's suspension, despite the fact he represents Luton taxpayers and is given extra allowance for his work.
Mr Conniff this week refused to comment on the matter.
We tried to contact Cllr Saleem but he failed to return any of our calls.
